‘The Recess’ in the running at Festival Política

Iranian short flick ‘The Recess’ is currently competing for the top prize at the 2021 Festival Política in Portugal.

Written, produced and directed by Navid Nikkhah-Azad, the short film on a 17-year-old school-girl named Sahar is competing at the 5th edition of Festival Política, which kicked off on April 22 and will end on April 25, 2021.

‘The Recess’ tells us about Sahar who runs away from school to watch the football match of her beloved club.

Sahar, along with three of her friends, is planning to exit the school during the break in order to watch the match between Esteghlal FC and Al Ain FC at Azadi Sports Complex.

Mozhan Kordi, Reyhaneh Naieean, Niloufar Shokouhinia, and Ghazal Khalili are on the cast list.

So far, ‘The Recess’ participated in the 13th Sofia MENAR Film Festival (SMFF) in Bulgaria, the 2021 Lebu International Film Festival (CINELEBU) in Chile and the 19th Garden State Film Festival in the US.

The 18th Oxford Film Festival (OFF) in the US previously bestowed the award for best short film on ‘The Recess’.

‘The Recess’ was recently screened at the 20th Reality Bytes Independent Student Film Festival in the US, the Alicante International Film Festival in Spain, the 54th Humboldt International Film Festival in the US and the 13th Grand River Film Festival in Canada.

Spain-based FeelSales Film Company is in charge of the international distribution of the flick.

The Festival Política shared “Borders, walls, migrations” as the main theme of its 2021 edition. Films related to borders, migrations, social movements, youth movements and human rights were picked for the competition lineup this year.
